Liverpool condemn racist abuse of Konate after Osimhen injury in UCL clash

Liverpool have issued a statement condemning the racist abuse directed at Ibrahima Konate following their UEFA Champions League victory over Galatasaray.

The Premier League side secured a dominant 4-0 win at Anfield, sealing a 4-1 aggregate win to progress to the quarter-finals. However, the result was overshadowed by incidents involving Konaté during and after the match.

Osimhen injury raises concerns

Konaté was involved in an early collision with Victor Osimhen, which left the striker struggling with his arm.

Osimhen attempted to continue but was eventually forced off at half-time due to the severity of the injury.

The French defender was also involved in further tense moments, including altercations with Noa Lang and Mauro Icardi.

Club responds to online abuse

Following the match, Konaté became the target of racist abuse on social media, prompting an immediate response from Liverpool.

“Liverpool FC is appalled and disgusted by the vile and abhorrent racist abuse directed at Ibrahima Konaté on social media,” the club said in an official statement.

Liverpool reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy on discrimination and confirmed it is working with relevant authorities while pushing social media platforms to take decisive action.
