Lauren Wendy Sánchez Bezos (born December 19, 1969) is an American former journalist. She is a certified pilot who founded Black Ops Aviation, an aerial cinematography and production firm. Sánchez has appeared as a guest host on The View, a co-host on KTTV Fox 11’s Good Day L.A., an anchor on Fox 11 News at Ten, and an anchor and special reporter for Extra. She has also been a regular contributor to Larry King Live, The Joy Behar Show, and Showbiz Tonight.

Ray Sánchez, a mechanic and flying instructor, and Eleanor Sánchez, a former assistant deputy mayor of Los Angeles, welcomed Lauren Wendy Sánchez into the world on December 19, 1969, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Being “third-generation Mexican-American” is how Sánchez characterizes herself.

She worked at The Beach water park and participated in student assembly and cheering while attending Del Norte High School. Sánchez attended the University of New Mexico to study speech and acting after graduating from high school in 1987.

Later, she relocated to California and enrolled at El Camino College, where a professor recognized her learning challenges and gave her a dyslexia diagnosis.

Lauren now advocates for more accessible educational systems and supports the International Dyslexia Association as a result of this diagnosis. Later, she attended the University of Southern California to study communications. She took first place in the global Models World Magazine Cover Girl Competition in 1990.

Career

Sánchez started with KCOP-TV in Los Angeles as a desk assistant. Before becoming a reporter for the syndicated entertainment program Extra, she worked as an anchor and reporter at Phoenix’s KTVK-TV.

She then transferred to Fox Sports Net, where she worked as an anchor for Fox Sports News Primetime, received an Emmy nomination for her work as an anchor and correspondent for the sports magazine Going Deep, and eventually became an entertainment reporter for FSN’s Best Damn Sports Show Period.

Sánchez rejoined KCOP-TV in 1999 as an anchor for UPN News 13, where she and her colleagues took home an Emmy. 1999. Sánchez was the anchor of Fox 11 News at Ten and co-host of KTTV Fox 11’s Good Day LA. In February 2000, she placed second in the national hosting competition for season 2 of The View.

In the end, Lisa Ling was assigned the role. Sánchez took over as the first presenter of FOX’s well-known dance competition, So You Think You Can Dance, in 2005. Along with Katy Perry, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, Kerianne Flynn, and fellow journalist Gayle King, Sánchez was named as a passenger on Blue Origin’s eleventh space trip under the New Shepard program on February 27, 2025. On April 14, 2025, Sánchez and King were the first female journalists to go to space with Blue Origin NS-31’s suborbital voyage.
