Laporta confirms contract renewal for Hansi Flick at Barcelona

Joan Laporta has confirmed that Hansi Flick is set to extend his stay at Barcelona following his re-election as club president.

Laporta revealed that discussions are at an advanced stage, with the club keen to secure the manager’s future and maintain stability within the sporting project.

Flick’s impact drives renewal push

Since arriving in 2024, Flick has overseen a dramatic turnaround at Barcelona, guiding the club to a domestic treble – La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup, in his debut campaign.

Despite being under contract until 2027, the club hierarchy is moving to improve his terms.

Speaking to RAC1, Laporta said: “We will surely announce Hansi Flick’s contract renewal soon,” adding that the club prefers its head coach to always have at least a year of contractual security.

Record-breaking start under Flick

Flick’s tenure has been marked by elite-level output. The German reached 100 matches in charge by February 2026, recording 75 wins, a figure only surpassed in club history by Luis Enrique.

Barcelona have also rediscovered their attacking dominance under his leadership, scoring 281 goals in that period, with his high-pressing system transforming the team into one of Europe’s most potent sides.

Focus shifts to Champions League ambition

Barcelona are now targeting continental success, aiming to win their first UEFA Champions League title since 2015.

Following a 1-1 first-leg draw against Newcastle United, attention turns to the decisive return leg at Camp Nou.

Domestically, Barcelona hold a four-point lead over Real Madrid in the title race, pitching Flick’s side strongly as they enter the final stretch of the season.
