Landlord shocks realtor, rejects ₦80m offer after hearing client’s tribe

A realtor lady has called out blatant ethnic discrimination in Nigeria’s real estate market after her Igbo client, willing to pay ₦40 million per year for a house, was denied solely because he is not Yoruba.

In a post shared by @dammiedammie35 on X (formerly Twitter), the woman expressed her frustration over the landlord’s decision.

She revealed that her client had agreed to pay ₦40 million annually, but the owner demanded two years upfront, totaling ₦80 million.

Despite meeting these financial requirements, her client was rejected simply because of his ethnic background.

She criticized the landlord for prioritizing ethnicity over payment, highlighting the ridiculousness of turning away someone capable of paying such a high rent.

“I’m a big fan of one Nigeria, but this tribalistic behavior has to stop. My client is Igbo. You’re not giving him the house, yet you’re demanding two years upfront from someone else?” She said.

The woman also called for reporting such discriminatory practices to the authorities, stressing that the current approach is unfair and exclusionary.

The post quickly garnered attention on social media. Some users supported her stance, with one commenting, “This is outrageous. Who cares about ethnicity when the money is ready?”

Another wrote, “This shows how deep tribalism still runs in Nigeria. Absolutely unacceptable.” Others expressed concern about how prevalent such bias is in the housing sector.
