Lampard praises Frank Onyeka on MOTM performance

Coventry City manager gg- has praised midfielder Frank Onyeka following his Player of the Match performance in the club’s victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Onyeka, who joined Coventry on loan from Brentford during the winter transfer window, played 86 minutes at the Hawthorns as the Sky Blues secured another important result in their push at the top of the Championship table.

Midfield control

The Nigerian international was central to Coventry’s performance, breaking up opposition attacks and maintaining control in midfield.

Although he did not register a goal or assist, his contribution helped provide the platform for the team’s attacking play.

Lampard highlighted Onyeka’s role in the build-up to one of the goals.

“The first was great, good transition from a great tackle from Frank (Onyeka) and then a great ball from Milan and a run from Ephron, which is stuff we talk about a lot,” Lampard told the Coventry Telegraph.

“We actually mentioned it with this game. We were not sure whether they would play a back four or a back five, but if it was a four, we thought we could run through the back line a bit.

“And Ephron did, and his timing was great, and it was a calm finish as well.”

Title race boost

Lampard also praised other members of his squad, noting improvements in individual form as the campaign progresses.

“And then Rudi’s, I’m delighted for Rudi because his form is improving. His injury problems this year have been the only reason he hasn’t had the year that we all wanted and expected for him because he’s a high talent,” he said.

Middlesbrough’s draw with Oxford United means Coventry now sit three points clear at the top of the Championship standings.
