Lady shares how her lawyer smartly turned ₦300k debt into written confession

A Nigerian lawyer has gone viral online for using a clever strategy to help a client turn a verbal ₦300,000 debt into a written confession, making it legally enforceable.
Debt Without Proof
The client, a young woman, had lent ₦300,000 to someone but had no written evidence of the loan.
This made it difficult to claim the money in court or enforce repayment.
“Sir, someone owes me money. ₦300k,” she reportedly told her lawyer.
“Do you have any proof to that effect?” the lawyer asked.
“No,” she admitted.
The Lawyer’s Clever Strategy
Instead of asking the debtor directly for the ₦300k owed, the lawyer advised the client to request ₦350,000, an amount slightly more than the actual debt.
This approach was designed to trigger a correction from the debtor, which would then serve as written proof.
“Write to him and ask him to pay you ₦350k,” the lawyer instructed.
“Sir, but what he owes me is ₦300k,” she replied.
“Don’t worry, just do as I have told you,” the lawyer said.
Written Confession
When the client followed the lawyer’s advice, the debtor responded, inadvertently confirming the actual debt in writing:
“What I owe you is 300, not 350,” the debtor allegedly wrote.
The lawyer then explained that this response could be used as legal evidence to pursue the debt.
“I then showed the Barrister the reply I had received from him, and he said, ‘That is the evidence we will use against him.’”
