Lady shares conversation with cousin who sends her N200K on her birthdays

A Nigerian lady has ignited conversations on social media after sharing her reaction to a birthday gift she received from her cousin living abroad.

According to her, the cousin had sent her ₦200,000 as a birthday gift two years ago, skipped the following year, and then sent the same amount again for her recent birthday.

However, she noted that the economic situation has changed significantly, making the value of the money less impactful than before.

She explained that while she appreciates the gesture, she believes the amount no longer reflects current realities, especially when compared to foreign currency value.

She also referenced her involvement in helping the cousin’s wife purchase items from Nigeria, suggesting awareness of their spending capacity.

“My cousin who lives abroad sent me 200k cash gift on my birthday last two years. he didn’t send last year. Yesterday my birthday he sent 200k again. And I respectfully told him the economy last 2 years is not the same as this years’. 200k naira is less than 200 dollars. I know how much his wife uses in buying wigs from Nigeria through me. I’m not ungrateful or feeling entitled, I just feel he can do more.”
