Lady laments as landlord raises rent to ₦700k after earlier hikes from ₦280k to ₦350k in Edo State
A Nigerian lady has expressed frustration after her landlord increased her house rent to ₦700,000, following earlier increments from ₦280,000 to ₦350,000 in Edo State.
This was revealed in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @ChuksEricE, who detailed the lady’s experience as she lamented the continuous hike in rent.
According to her, several messages had been sent to the landlord by her and other tenants, but he refused to respond.
She narrated that she was mostly away from home and only returned to find a document placed at her doorstep, which she later discovered to be a letter from the landlord’s lawyer.
The letter stated that she must pay a new rent of ₦700,000 before December, or vacate the apartment.
She explained that the rent was originally ₦280,000, then increased to ₦350,000, and now raised drastically to ₦700,000.
In her words: “At this point, can we all drag the landlord? Because this morning I just saw this at my door. I opened it and saw lawyers sent me papers from my landlord that house rent is from ₦350,000 to ₦700,000, and I must pay this money by December.”
“If I can’t afford it, I should pack out. Mind you, our house rent was ₦280,000, they increased it to ₦350,000 and we didn’t complain. Now ₦700,000? In this small Edo State? What is the reason for this increment? We wrote the landlord, he doesn’t reply.”
As the post gained traction online, concerned Nigerians flooded the comment section to share their thoughts and reactions.
