Lady blasts family, friends for pressuring her to marry as she nears 25
A Nigerian lady has cried out over the toll constant marriage pressure is taking on her mental health, calling out family and friends for insisting she gets married as she approaches 25 years old.
This was revealed in a post shared on popular social media platform, TikTok, by user @izzza35, who narrated her experience.
According to her, both family members and friends especially married ones have been pressuring her to marry, despite the fact that she is not ready and still trying to figure out her life.
In her words:
“This is me officially calling my family members out, and calling out my friends, especially my married friends. Please let me breathe; everything isn’t about marriage. Can I breathe? Can I figure out my life?”
“You’re married, please enjoy your marriage, don’t pressure me. You guys should stop pressuring me. Yes, fine, I’ll be 25 in three weeks—there are so many of my mates who are no more.”
“I am a Muslim, I am supposed to be married, I know, but leave me alone.”
“There are so many things I need to figure out as a lady. I don’t even have anything to show off for. Can you guys let me breathe? This is me officially calling them out. You people are messing with my mental health. I’m tired.”
“A friend of mine called me yesterday; I know she has been married for eight years. She said, ‘Zainab, you should get married, even if it’s just to have a child.’ Can you guys let me breathe?”
