Labour Party holds NEC meeting, begins restructuring ahead of 2027 elections

The Labour Party (LP), under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman, is currently holding its statutory National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, with key stakeholders present to chart a new course for the party.

Among the notable attendees are the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, his deputy Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, and other top-ranking members of the party. Also in attendance is the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Sylvester Ejiofor, was represented.

A major highlight of the meeting is the planned inauguration of an interim National Working Committee (NWC), which will take over the party’s leadership until a national convention is held to elect new officers.

The NEC is also expected to establish several strategic committees, including one for a nationwide membership re-validation exercise and another to organise upcoming party congresses across various levels.

Party insiders describe the gathering as a pivotal moment in the Labour Party’s efforts to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections. The NEC meeting is viewed as an important step in strengthening internal structures and mobilising grassroots support for future political engagements.
