Kyle Walker retires from England duty after 96 caps

Kyle Walker has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a distinguished career with the England national football team.
The 35-year-old Burnley defender confirmed his decision with immediate effect after earning 96 caps and representing England at five major tournaments.
Walker, whose final appearance came in a friendly against Senegal national football team at the City Ground in June 2025, described his international career as a “whirlwind of a journey” and said the “book is now closed.”
England career spanning more than a decade
Walker made his England debut against Spain national football team in November 2011 and went on to establish himself as one of the team’s most consistent defenders.

The experienced right-back featured at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2022 FIFA World Cup, as well as three European Championships – UEFA Euro 2016, UEFA Euro 2020 and UEFA Euro 2024.
Before joining Burnley, Walker also enjoyed club spells with Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
Walker proud of England legacy
Reflecting on his international journey, Walker said representing England had been one of the greatest honours of his career.
“I am sad to be making this decision, but I’m also very proud of what I’ve achieved with England,” he said.
“To win so many caps is a great honour and something I’m extremely proud of.”
Walker scored his only international goal in September 2023 against Ukraine national football team.
He added that he hopes his generation helped reshape perceptions of the national team.
“We’ve tried to change the way that people look at English football and how the media views the national team,” Walker said.
“There should always be pressure playing for your country, but we’re the chosen ones who are lucky enough to wear the shirt and represent England.”
