Kate Andrews (born June 24, 1990) is an American journalist based in the United Kingdom who covers economic topics. She has been The Spectator’s economics editor since 2021 and writes a weekly piece for The Daily Telegraph. She previously contributed a fortnightly column to City AM.

Andrews attended Greens Farms Academy in Westport, Connecticut, before going to Scotland in 2008 to study at the University of St Andrews, where she earned a Master of Arts in International Relations and Philosophy in 2012. She was a member of St. Andrews University’s performing arts society and served as the rector’s assessor during Alistair Moffat’s tenure.

Career
After university, Andrews worked briefly for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign team, Linda McMahon’s senate campaign team, and Townhall, an American conservative news website. In 2014, she returned to the United Kingdom to work for the Adam Smith Institute, a neoliberal think tank.
She then accepted a post as news editor at the Institute of Economic Affairs, a think tank focused on free markets. In 2018, she was named one of LBC’s 100 most influential Conservatives in the UK. She began working for The Spectator as a journalist covering economic problems in 2020, and in 2021, she was promoted to the position of economic editor.
She has twice been nominated for ‘Business and Finance Journalist of the Year’ by The Press Awards for her trend-analysis work, most notably anticipating the rise in inflation that the UK saw following the COVID-19 epidemic.
She is a frequent panelist on the BBC’s Politics Live and Question Time, as well as making regular media appearances on other channels, including Sky News, Channel 4, Channel 5, and ITV.
Andrews, a self-described lifelong Republican, voted for Joe Biden in 2020 to protest Donald Trump, having previously supported the Libertarian candidate in 2016. She is a free-speech advocate, supports immigration, and has previously spoken out against gun control laws that expanded background checks for potential gun buyers.
Andrews has often campaigned for a change in the way the National Health Service is funded. She does not feel that the US healthcare system’s financial model should be emulated in the UK, but she does favor researching other nations’ healthcare systems that adhere to the values of universal access and free at the point of care.
