JUST IN: Tinubu gives N200k to teen who beat 69 countries in global English contest

The Federal Government has awarded 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi from Yobe State N200,000 for her outstanding performance at the TeenEagle Global Finals in London, where she was named the World Best in English.
The prize was presented by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, at a ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday.
Nafisa Abdullahi, who stood out for her exceptional command of the English language, critical thinking, and articulation, emerged victorious among participants from 69 countries.
Her victory marked a historic moment, as she outshone contestants from native English-speaking nations.
Speaking at the award presentation, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, praised Nafisa’s achievement, describing her as “a shining example of resilience, talent, and excellence.”
He stated that her success reflects the Federal Government’s renewed investment in education under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“You are the future of Nigeria, and you have made us proud. For the first time in the history of our nation, we have one of the highest budgetary allocations to education.
“Each time we approach the President for support in the sector, his response has been a resounding ‘yes’ because he believes in you, the children of Nigeria.

“Your success gives us the confidence to ask for more, and we will continue to do so on your behalf,” the minister said.
Dr. Alausa further announced that additional cash prizes of over N100,000 would be given to other outstanding Nigerian students who also performed remarkably in international academic competitions.
The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suiwaba Ahmad, also commended Nafisa’s determination and urged her to see the feat as the beginning of greater opportunities.
She added that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting young talents who bring honour to the nation.
“Nigerian youths can compete and excel globally. Nafisa has demonstrated that Nigeria is blessed and can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world. You are a shining example,” she said.
Responding, Nafisa expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, the Atiku Abubakar Foundation, her school Nigerian Tulip International College, and her parents for their encouragement and support throughout the competition.
Also present at the event, the Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Abba Idris, lauded Nafisa’s global victory and assured that the state government would continue to prioritise education and celebrate outstanding students.
