“Jos attack, evidence of failed leadership” — Apostle Johnson Suleman

A Nigerian cleric, Johnson Suleman, has stirred fresh debate online after strongly criticising the country’s leadership following the recent deadly attack in Jos, Plateau State.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the outspoken preacher described the incident as clear evidence of leadership failure, accusing authorities of placing politics above the safety of citizens.
Cleric Condemns ‘Failed Leadership’
Reacting to the attack, Suleman said the tragedy highlights a system that has neglected its primary duty of protecting lives and property. According to him, the focus of those in power has shifted towards political activities rather than addressing insecurity.
“Jos attack is another evidence of failed leadership,” he wrote. “Leadership that prioritizes politics over protection of lives.”
He further criticised what he described as wasteful spending tied to political events, warning that history would judge leaders who fail to act decisively in times of crisis.
‘Prayers Won’t Replace Responsibility’
While acknowledging the importance of faith, the cleric stressed that prayer alone cannot solve governance failures. He called for leaders who show compassion and take responsibility for the welfare of citizens.
“I believe in the power of prayers but prayers won’t replace responsibility,” he stated, adding that Nigerians deserve humane leadership driven by empathy.
Suleman also expressed frustration over the recurring violence across the country, describing the situation as “depressingly exhausting” for citizens already grappling with hardship.
Solidarity With Victims’ Families
The preacher extended his condolences to families affected by the Jos attack, offering prayers for strength as they cope with their losses.
He said, “We stand with the families who lost loved ones and pray for fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
