Jorge Jesus puts Osimhen alongside Haaland among world’s strongest strikers

Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has placed Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen alongside Erling Haaland when discussing the most powerful forwards in world football.

Jesus made the comparison ahead of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League meeting with Norway at the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo on Sunday.

Haaland was the main attacking threat for Norway, having established himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers in international football. The Manchester City striker has also built a reputation for his physical strength, pace and finishing.

Jesus highlights Osimhen’s qualities

Asked about the threat posed by Haaland before the match, Jesus focused on the Norwegian’s effectiveness inside the penalty area and drew a direct comparison with Osimhen.

“Haaland is the most physically and technically powerful player inside the box,” Jesus said.

“Outside the area, he isn’t quite as dominant, even though he is fast. But inside the box, for me, he and Osimhen are the strongest in the world.”

The comments put Osimhen in the same category as Haaland when it comes to physical and technical strength in the penalty area.

Both strikers are known for their ability to attack crosses, compete with defenders and finish chances from close range, although they operate in different tactical systems at club level.

Haaland scores despite Portugal victory

Jesus’ Portugal eventually secured a 2-1 victory over Norway, but Haaland still made his mark by scoring Norway’s only goal.

The result gave Portugal the advantage in their Nations League encounter despite the home side finding a way through their opponents’ defence.
