Jonathan set to join 2027 presidential race, return to Aso Rock — Jerry Gana

Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has revealed that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will run for the 2027 presidential election under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gana voiced confidence that Jonathan has the political strength to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and return to Aso Rock a decade after leaving office.

Jonathan, who was defeated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), in the 2015 polls, saw his loss bring an end to the PDP’s 16-year rule. Since then, the opposition party has grappled with internal divisions while seeking a pathway back to power.
Prof Gana speaks on Jonathan’s return
Speaking with reporters after the PDP Congress held in Minna, Niger State, over the weekend, Gana noted that Nigerians have experienced two other presidents since Jonathan and are now eager to see him make a comeback.

He said …
“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years.
“Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan,” Gana said.
“I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again.”
GEJ’s stance on running for 2027
While party leaders like Jerry Gana have continued to push for his return, former President Jonathan has so far remained cautious about declaring any intention to contest. In past interviews, he has often emphasized his commitment to peace-building and democracy across Africa, noting that leadership is not a position to be sought at all costs.
Jonathan has neither openly confirmed nor denied interest in the 2027 race, maintaining that his priority remains his work with international organizations and mediation efforts.
