“It’s more rampant than we think” – Lawyer raises awareness on paternity fraud, narrates case

Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has raised concerns over the increasing prevalence of paternity fraud, revealing that he has handled multiple cases within a short period.
Taking to social media, Effiong disclosed that he attended to two separate cases involving paternity fraud and marital infidelity in the space of one week, with one of the matters already presented in open court.

He described the emotional toll of the cases, recounting how one of his clients broke down in tears while testifying about being deceived by his wife over the paternity of a child.
According to the lawyer, what made the situation more troubling was the alleged lack of remorse from the woman involved, who reportedly blamed her husband for the fraud.
He added that another victim in a similar case also broke down emotionally while recounting his experience.
Effiong noted that the availability of DNA testing has become crucial in uncovering the truth in such situations, stressing that it has helped simplify what would otherwise remain hidden for years.
Drawing from his experience representing both men and women in matrimonial disputes, the lawyer warned that paternity fraud appears to be far more common than many people realise, urging greater awareness and honesty in relationships.
