Isaac Fayose alleges 29 deaths in Osun governorship election, questions ₦100bn spending claims

Social commentator and businessman Isaac Fayose has reacted to the controversies surrounding the recently concluded Osun State governorship election, lamenting the alleged loss of lives and the huge sums reportedly spent by political parties.

Taking to his Instagram page, Fayose claimed that 29 people had lost their lives in connection with the election and criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke for allegedly aligning with the same political forces he said were once opposed to him.

“Osun State, 29 people don kpai for Adeleke, say they no go take him state from him. The Adeleke now is with the oppressor they fought. What a country,” he said.

Fayose also raised questions over conflicting allegations about the amount of money allegedly spent during the election.

His comments come amid claims by the incumbent governor’s brother, Adedeji Adeleke, that the APC spent about ₦60 billion on the election, while former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose reportedly alleged that Accord Party spent about ₦40 billion.

He questioned what could have been achieved if such huge amounts were instead invested in education, empowerment and poverty alleviation.

“So between Accord and APC, they spent ₦100 billion for the election. How many schools? How many empowerment can ₦100 billion give you?

If you share ₦100 billion, ₦1 million each to people, you know how many people you will touch? Wey go fit feed themselves,” he added.

Fayose further argued that ordinary Nigerians ultimately bear the consequences of excessive political spending, while politicians and their supporters continue to benefit.
