“Is this how people behave?” – Lady laments after stranger she dropped home at night calls back to borrow ₦50k
A Nigerian lady has sparked reactions online after sharing her surprising experience with a woman she met during a solo outing, who later contacted her to request financial help.
The story, shared on Facebook by Tonia Umerah, detailed how what started as a pleasant chance meeting later left her feeling confused and taken advantage of.
Chance Meeting on a Solo Date
According to her post, she had gone out alone last month when another lady approached her to ask if she was with someone.
After learning she was alone, the stranger requested to join her table, and she agreed.
The two reportedly connected instantly, engaging in deep conversations as though they had known each other for years.
They stayed together at the venue until about 10 p.m., enjoying the unexpected companionship.
Late-Night Ride Dilemma
As it got late, the new acquaintance attempted to book a ride home using a Bolt app.
Although the fare initially appeared as ₦8,000, the driver allegedly demanded ₦13,000 due to the late hour.
Seeing how worried the lady became, she offered to drop her off with her car, leaving around 10:30 p.m., dropping her off by 10:50 p.m., and returning home shortly after.
Unexpected Silence and Sudden Request
However, she said she later noticed the woman did not call or send a message to confirm she had also gotten home safely, despite exchanging contact details earlier.
Concerned, she decided to reach out first to ensure the woman was safe.
After confirming she had arrived home, their conversation ended and according to her, there was no further communication.
Weeks later, she was surprised when the same woman reportedly called again, this time with lengthy explanations before asking to borrow ₦50,000.
Sharing her frustration online, she wrote:
“Last month, I went out on a solo date and a lady asked me if I was with someone, I replied no and she asked to join my table and I accepted.
Our vibes clicked and we started having conversations like people who have known each other for long.
We stayed there till 10pm and she started booking bolt that will take her home. She saw 8k on bolt app but when she called the bolt driver, he said 13k because it was already late and she was really worried and lamenting.
I asked her where her location is and offered to go drop her with my car. She was so happy and said she didn’t know I have a car.
We left by 10:30pm and I dropped her at her house by 10:50pm and got back to my house around 11:10pm.
When I came back home, I had my shower and I checked my phone and saw she didn’t even call me to be sure I got back home which I find weird because we exchanged contacts.
I’m a grown adult lady and I don’t like playing mind games so I called her to be sure she is okay and safe because sometimes you may be playing mind games without knowing what someone may be going through.
She told me she got home safe and thanked me. I replied okay, good night.
Since then she has never called to check up on me but guess what?
She called me today with plenty stories and begged me to borrow her 50k.
