Inter open talks with Cesc Fabregas to replace departed Inzaghi

Inter Milan have initiated formal discussions with Como head coach Cesc Fabregas as they seek a quick replacement for Simone Inzaghi, who officially departed the club for Al-Hilal by mutual consent on Tuesday.

Inzaghi’s exit comes four years to the day after his appointment and just three days after Inter’s humiliating 5-0 Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italian tactician is expected to take over at Al-Hilal on a lucrative two-year deal worth €26 million per season, with his debut match set for June 18 against Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Inter, also competing in the Club World Cup later this month, are under pressure to appoint a new head coach promptly, whether interim or permanent, before the tournament kicks off.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Fabregas is the frontrunner for the Inter role. The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder has impressed in his managerial debut at Como, leading the club to promotion to Serie A.

He has already rejected offers from Bayer Leverkusen, who eventually appointed Xabi Alonso’s successor, and AS Roma, who turned to Gian Piero Gasperini.

While Fabregas is reportedly interested in Inter’s proposal, he has yet to give a firm response.

Talks are ongoing, with both sides expected to stay in contact as a final decision approaches.

Other candidates reportedly under consideration include Roberto De Zerbi, Patrick Vieira and Cristian Chivu, but Fabregas remains Inter’s priority.
