inDrive breaks silence, bans driver after alleged assault of female passenger
Ride-hailing company inDrive has reacted to the alleged assault involving one of its drivers and a female passenger, Amina Usman, confirming that the driver’s account has been permanently banned from the platform.
In an earlier report by Gistreel, a lady shared an emotional account of her alleged ordeal with an inDrive driver, claiming she was assaulted and humiliated during a disagreement over ₦600 balance.
The company disclosed this in an official statement following reports of the incident, stating that it had concluded its internal investigation into the matter.
According to inDrive, the safety and wellbeing of everyone using its platform remain its highest priority, stressing that it has zero tolerance for any form of violence.
In its statement, the company said:
“We are deeply concerned by the incident involving a driver and passenger, Ms Amina Usman. The safety and wellbeing of everyone who uses our platform is our highest priority, and we take reports of this nature very seriously. inDrive has zero tolerance for violence towards anyone using our platform.”
The company further revealed that the driver involved has been removed from the platform and assured the public of its readiness to cooperate with law enforcement agencies if required.
It added that any information needed for investigations would be provided in line with applicable laws and its privacy obligations.
“We encourage anyone who experiences an issue during a trip to report it through the in-app Support or Safety Centre so that we can investigate and take appropriate action in line with our policies.
The safety and trust of both our riders and drivers remain our top priority, and we are committed to taking decisive action in response to conduct that violates our safety standards.”
inDrive reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe environment for both riders and drivers, urging users to promptly report any safety concerns through its in-app support and safety channels.
