“I’m truly sorry” – OAU female student begs schoolmate after ₦15m lawsuit, says ‘such will not repeat itself’

A female student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, identified as Adeife, has released another public apology to her schoolmate, David Adefesobi Ojuko, after accusing him of rape.
The apology follows a ₦15 million defamation lawsuit filed against her.
In a new video shared online, Adeife admitted she wrongly described David as a rapist on her WhatsApp status.
She expressed deep regret over her actions and said her statement was made in anger.
Dispute Over ‘Mirabel Issue’ Sparked Allegation
According to Adeife, the accusation came after a disagreement between her and David over his opinion on the trending “Mirabel issue.”
She explained that the argument escalated and she reacted emotionally.
Adeife admitted she spoke carelessly during the disagreement and acknowledged that her words caused harm.
“David Has Never Raped Anybody”
In the video, she clearly withdrew the allegation and stated that there was no truth to her claim.
She emphasised that there was no evidence to support the accusation and described her earlier claim as wrong.
Families Reportedly Hold Meeting
Adeife revealed that both families held a virtual meeting on Friday, February 20, 2026, to address the matter. She said she accepted responsibility during the meeting.
In her words: Good morning, everybody. My name is Ade Ife, and I am here today to sincerely apologise to Davi from the bottom of my heart.
Recently, I made a very wrong statement on my WhatsApp status, tagging David as a rapist. David had only shared his opinion about the Mirabelle’s ongoing saga, and our disagreement led me to speak very carelessly, and it is something that I truly regret.
I want to make it clear that David has never raped anybody. In fact, testimonies around shows that David is a very easygoing and respectful person.
Our families met on virtual meeting on Friday, February 20th, 2026, including myself and David. I accepted my wrongdoings and all discordance from the family members, and after the deliberation, it was decided that I should write a letter of apology to David. I should make a retraction video on my status and apologise to David, and thirdly, my parents should visit Ile Ife for the physical apology.
On Sunday, 22nd February, 2026, my family visited his family in Ile Ife for the physical apology. I have learned my lessons from these incidents. Words spoken in anger can cause serious harm, and I want others to learn from this that you should never let your emotions override you.
Once again, I am very, very sorry, David. I am truly sorry from the depth of my heart, and I want to promise everybody that such will not repeat itself. Thank you for listening. I am sorry once again, David. Thank you.
