“I’m still ashamed of myself” — Lady who advised her friend to dump broke boyfriend regrets

A Nigerian lady has stirred fresh conversations online after admitting she once advised her friend to leave a “broke” boyfriend who later became her husband.
The story, shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, has since attracted reactions from users debating loyalty, patience and financial stability in relationships.
From Campus Struggles to Comfort
In her post, the lady recalled their university days when her friend’s family was facing serious financial hardship.
According to her, the friend had a boyfriend who was not financially buoyant and could only offer what she described as “the little he could.”
She admitted that the little support “is nothing to write home about,” and this worried them deeply at the time.
Other men reportedly showed interest in her friend, but she turned them down. “She was loyal and hopeful with her boyfriend,” the lady wrote.
The narrator confessed that she and another friend did everything possible to convince her to walk away.
“There’s nothing we didn’t say 🤣 to convince her to leave her broke bf,” she stated.
Despite the pressure, their friend refused to abandon the relationship and stayed committed until graduation.
Years Later, A Different Story
Years after school, the same couple is now married and living comfortably.
The woman revealed that her once-struggling friend now lives in her own house with her husband, and they own a car.
She described them as “very comfortable,” a sharp contrast to their student days. What shocked her most was a recent gesture.
On her last birthday, the married friend reportedly sent her a large sum of money. “A sum I can’t afford to gift a person,” she admitted.
She added that her friend also supported her business despite the distance between them. The gesture left her feeling ashamed of the advice she once gave.
“I’m still ashamed of myself and the advice we gave her. I’m glad she did not listen to us,” she wrote.
Regret and Reflection
The post ended on a reflective note. The narrator disclosed that she and the other friend who pushed for the breakup are both still unmarried.
“Guess who is still unmarried and yet to find their balance in life? Both of us who advised her,” she concluded.
