“I’m not telling this story to get pity, I’m telling it because this pain is real” – Man shares ordeal with wife

A Nigerian man has sparked emotional reactions online after sharing a painful account of how his marriage collapsed following his move to Europe, leading to deportation and personal loss.
The man shared his story in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stressing that he was not seeking pity but speaking about a pain he said still feels real.
A Marriage Built on Trust and Sacrifice
According to him, he married his wife with genuine love and complete trust, believing they were building a future together.
He explained that life in Europe was far from the dream many people imagine, saying survival required intense labour, long hours, and constant sacrifice.
The man revealed that he worked exhausting jobs that barely paid, often skipping meals and denying himself basic comfort, all to save money for one goal: bringing his wife to Europe legally.
Years of Struggle to Bring Her Abroad
He detailed how every income he earned went into immigration processes, including legal documents, marriage papers, lawyers’ fees, and endless appointments.
After months of effort, his wife’s visa was finally approved, a moment he described as one of the proudest of his life.
He recalled welcoming her at the airport with joy, introducing her to his new city, and believing they were about to start a peaceful family life together.
A Sudden Change After Arrival
The man claimed things began to change slowly after his wife settled in Europe.
He said she became distant, angry, and increasingly critical of him, often comparing him to other men and accusing him of not doing enough.
Despite the emotional strain, he said he remained silent, believing patience and effort would restore their marriage.
Police Intervention and Forced Exit
According to the post, the marriage took a dramatic turn when police officers arrived at his home following a report made by his wife.
He said he was ordered to pack a few belongings and leave the house immediately, despite being the one who paid the rent and built the home.
He described walking out of his own house feeling like a criminal, while his wife remained inside.
Divorce, Deportation, and Total Collapse
After the separation, he said his life spiralled as he moved between friends’ homes and avoided people out of shame.
Divorce papers later arrived without discussion or reconciliation, followed by immigration authorities informing him that his residence permit was no longer valid.
With his legal status tied to the marriage, he was eventually deported back home, while his wife remained in Europe.
A Question That Still Haunts Him
The man concluded his story by saying the pain was not only losing his wife, but losing his sense of self.
He lamented returning home with nothing, while people assumed life in Europe guaranteed success.
Ending his post, he asked a question that has continued to resonate with many readers online: “Was loving her my biggest mistake?”
