“I’m not proud of my past” – Pastor E.A Adeboye confesses

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said he is not proud of his past, describing his life as proof that God can change anyone, regardless of how troubled their history may be.

The 83-year-old cleric made the statement on Saturday while ministering on day five of the Holy Ghost Congress 2025 at Redemption City.

Addressing thousands of worshippers, including traditional rulers, Adeboye noted that many people doubted his salvation and suitability for pastoral leadership even after he gave his life to Christ.

According to him, several people who knew him in his younger years never believed he could become a pastor.

“The man talking to you right now, many people never thought I could be saved. Even if I was saved at all, they never believed I could become a pastor. I’m not proud of my past; if one could be bad, I was bad,” he said.

Adeboye shared personal encounters that highlighted this disbelief, including a moment when a former girlfriend came seeking a pastor and was shocked when he introduced himself.

He also recalled meeting a former university classmate decades later who expressed surprise at his transformation.

Reflecting on his childhood, the cleric admitted to past actions he regretted but emphasized reconciliation and redemption, noting that those affected later made peace with him.

He concluded by stressing that no one is beyond God’s saving grace and no life is too broken for God to transform.
