“I’m not joining ADC…, no one is stepping down for me” – Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has dismissed claims that he is planning to officially join the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the reports are misleading.

Speaking during an interactive session on X on Sunday night, Obi said he has been involved in the ADC-led coalition since it was formed, making any formal “joining” unnecessary.

He explained that recent conversations around his political future had created the wrong impression about his status within the coalition.

According to Obi, his relationship with the ADC predates the current public speculation and is rooted in a shared political understanding.

Coalition built on cooperation, not succession

Obi also addressed suggestions that some political figures within the coalition were stepping aside in his favour.

He rejected such claims, stressing that no agreement exists that places him above other leaders.

“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of,” Obi said.

He added that the coalition operates on collective engagement rather than individual ambition.

“Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC,” he said.

Obi reaffirms respect for Atiku

The former Anambra State governor used the opportunity to restate his respect for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a leader within the coalition.

Obi said the alliance remains focused on cooperation and mutual respect among its members.

“We have all agreed to work together and Atiku remains my respected leader,” he said.
