She stopped at Chicken Republic, where she ordered rice and fries before noticing she had been overcharged by about ₦6,600.
According to her, a staff member had mistakenly included an item she had only asked about but did not order. She said the error was acknowledged and resolved when another customer arrived to order the same item.
How the unexpected gift happened
The lady explained that the staff member, apparently relieved that a refund would no longer be necessary, asked the new customer to pay the ₦6,600 to her while his order was being prepared.
She said the customer’s payment app was not working and, because she was in a hurry, he suggested sending airtime instead. She agreed, received the airtime and left to continue eating in her car.
However, the surprise came days later when she checked her phone and discovered a message showing that she had received ₦30,000 airtime and 165GB of data.
The lady said she was particularly surprised because she was usually the person gifting airtime and data to others.
Lady reacts to unexpected generosity
Reacting to the development, the lady said, “Now I’m staring at my phone with a text message saying “Hi Chicken Republic, I realised your airtime would have ran out today.””
Her experience has sparked interest around the unexpected ways everyday encounters can lead to acts of generosity, particularly after what initially appeared to be nothing more than a routine restaurant billing error.
The story highlights how a rushed meal, a ₦6,600 mix-up and a failed payment app eventually resulted in a much bigger surprise for the Nigerian lady.
