“Igbo traditions are ruining our chances of marriage,” lady cries out

A Nigerian woman has sparked heated debate online after lamenting what she described as excessive and unfamiliar demands from extended family members ahead of her wedding.
Family demands spark outrage ahead of wedding
In an emotional outburst, she questioned why a man willing to marry her must now contend with long lists and financial obligations imposed by people she claims have never played any role in her life.
“If you see this list, guys it will shock you and this umuna that they are talking about, I have not received 5 naira from them. I don’t even know them. This people requesting for things I don’t know them.”
She said the pressure intensified when relatives began insisting that her fiancé must “settle” umunna and umuada before the marriage could proceed.
“These people have never bought me sweet before even pad they have not given to me even book pencil nothing and now everybody umuna. I don’t know whether it’s only my village that is doing this one but guys it’s so too much.“
The lady questioned why her marriage should be delayed or cancelled simply because her partner cannot meet financial expectations set by people she does not even know.
