“If 3 people can’t raise N1m within 1 hour in your family, you have no business with marriage” — Man says

A trending video on social media has sparked fresh debate about finances, family support, and readiness for marriage in Nigeria.
In the viral clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), a man questioned the financial strength of families, linking it directly to marriage decisions.
Viral statement raises questions on marriage readiness
In the video, the man said, “Can three people raise one million naira within one hour in your family? If No, please you don’t have business with marriage, go and look for how to liberate that family.”
The statement quickly gained traction online, with many Nigerians weighing in on whether financial capability should determine when or how people get married.

Nigerians share differing opinions
Reacting to the video, Akikanju wrote: “It’s not about not getting married because of money, it’s about how you get married. You and your partners must have a conversation on how to proceed in a way that doesn’t wreck you and your family financially.
Many spend millions on their wedding, enough money to buy or build a house. Get a marriage license, do a small get together and plan a big reception later in the future. Don’t let peer pressure wreck your finances.”
Another user, Dika, highlighted the economic realities facing many Nigerians. According to the comment: “Well, I got his perspective. This should be a matter of emergency in this country. People are barely feeding, hand to mouth, salary finishes ones it drops. No proper savings. Nothing nothing. God help us all.”
However, not everyone agreed with the viral opinion. Seun of Lagos criticised the growing trend of online advice, writing: “Anybody can wake up now come to the internet and become a motivational speaker. Burst my head.”
