“I’d rather go out alone than deal with transactional friendships” – Lady laments
Lady shares her frustrating experience with a friend she invited out, raising concerns about what she described as increasingly “transactional” friendships.
The lady shared her experience in a video that was seen trending on social media.
Lady laments transactional friendship
According to her, she had invited a friend to accompany her on an outing simply to avoid going alone.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the friend allegedly asked her to cover transport costs before even meeting up. She questioned the expectation, expressing discomfort at having to pay for her friend’s movement.
She further recounted that upon arrival at the venue, the friend reportedly ordered more food than she, despite being the one who extended the invitation.
The incident left her feeling taken advantage of, as she compared the dynamic to one where she was being treated like a sponsor rather than a friend.
Lady explains why she doesn’t split bills
While noting that some people are comfortable splitting bills, she explained that she personally prefers to cover expenses when she invites someone out. However, she expressed concern that such gestures are now being exploited, turning friendships into financial obligations.
The experience, she said, has changed her perspective, as she now prefers going out alone rather than dealing with situations she perceives as unfair or exploitative.

“I will rather take a man out than taking my fellow girl out with me. Girls don dey bill girls now. Tell me why I called my friend to go out together just because i don’t want to go out alone, she first billed me for transport, like is this a transactional friendship, why am I paying your transport fare? like that wasn’t enough, when we got there she even ordered more than I the host ordered. Like I be girl o, you come dey order things wey pass me, I be like man for your eye?
You dey order everything combo. Sharwama combi, rice combo. Some girls when they go out they share bills. But I don’t like sharing bills; I look to foot the bills when I go out with my friends, but they don wan turn our friendship to transactional friendship.
I’ve learnt my lesson
See me now I’m dressed and going to the cinema and I’m going alone because I’m tired of that kind friendship”
