“I started thinking, if I have money and someone tells me they need it to pay rent, why should I pass it into a building that’s already rich?” she said.
The media personality added that many churches appear financially stable, while members still battle with rent, hospital bills, and daily expenses.
Choosing direct impact
Toke said she has now redirected her giving to causes that meet immediate needs.
Instead of paying her tithe to a church, she supports hospitals, maternity wards, and individuals who reach out with specific requests.
“I would rather give my tithe to strangers who tell me their actual needs. The church is built. The pastors have money. Let’s help people the church cannot reach,” she stated.
She stressed that her decision was not an attack on faith but a personal choice based on conviction.

Toke also spoke about her earlier commitment to church giving.
She revealed that seven years ago, she handed over an entire endorsement deal to her church, hoping for financial blessings.
“Seven years ago, I didn’t touch one naira from an endorsement deal; I carried it all into the church. Now, I give where it directly helps someone in need,” she explained.
Her comments have sparked debate online, with some praising her honesty and others defending traditional tithing practices.
