“I would rather choose divorce over having a co-wife” — Lady declares

A Nigerian lady has sparked widespread reactions online after declaring that she would rather choose divorce than share her husband with another wife.

In a strongly worded post circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter, the woman described herself as “so selfish on that aspect” and insisted she could not endure polygamy for even a second.

Painful Experience Shapes Her Stand

Explaining the root of her position, she shared a personal story involving a close friend’s family.

According to her, her friend lost his brother after their father travelled on vacation with his second wife, leaving the first family without financial support.

She said the children were left with no money while their mother was ill at the time.

Everything happened so fast and the brother was gone,” she wrote, recalling the painful incident.

The woman stressed that experiences like this shaped her strong opposition to becoming either a first or second wife.

“It’s Either You and Me Forever”

In her post, she made her position clear without hesitation.

“I will never accept to be a first or second wife. It either you and me forever or we part ways,” she stated.

She added that she has seen several stories about the damage a second marriage can cause in families.

According to her, such arrangements often bring emotional pain and instability to homes.

My husband will never marry a second wife,” she declared confidently.

She further warned that if her partner ever desired another woman, he should present divorce papers instead.

“If you feel like eating from another woman’s pot, kindly serve me the divorce papers,” she wrote.

Family Values and Personal Conviction

The woman also pointed to her family background as part of her conviction. She noted that none of her family members has ever taken a second wife.

She added that no woman in her family has ever been a second wife to any man. “I can’t and will never live under the same roof with another woman,” she insisted.

Ending her message firmly, she concluded: “It’s me and you forever!”

Her post has since generated intense debate online, with many users sharing differing views on marriage, culture, and personal boundaries.
