I was taught to respect officials – Postecoglou after disappointing night against Chelsea

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has shared he was taught not to challenge decisions by match officials, after defeat to Chelsea at home.

Chelsea beat Tottenham 4-1 on Monday night, in a match that was marred by two red cards that left Postecoglou’s team with only nine players on the pitch.

The manager has come out to praise his men for their team spirit, while emphasizing the importance of respecting decisions by referees in a match, stating that managers often attempt to bend the rules.

“I was told when I grew up to respect the officials. You know what managers do? We try to bend the rules.

“You have to accept the referee’s decision; that’s how I grew up. The decision is the decision. In 26 years, I’ve had plenty of bad decisions, and I’ve had plenty fall in my favor. It is what it is,” he said.

Regarding injuries to Maddison and Van de Ven, he Postecoglou said, “It’s too early to talk about Maddison and Van de Ven’s injuries, but for Micky, it looks like a significant one.”

Postecoglou expressed pride in his players’ high-pressing in the match, even when it seemed obvious that they had lost the game.

“I am very proud of the players. Right to the end, they were trying to create something for us.

“The players couldn’t give any more than they did. Part of this game is will, effort, and determination, and they showed that.

“It is just who we are, mate, and who we will be for as long as I am here. If we go down to five men, we will have a go,” he added.
