“I was pained”- Medical doctor shares how colleague refunded ₦99M mistakenly credited to his account as salary arreas

A medical doctor has shared how his colleague refunded ₦99 million mistakenly credited to his account as salary arrears.
The medical doctor, identified as @DoctorCruise on X (formerly Twitter), shared that the incident happened in 2024 under the previous administration of the Edo State government.
Details Of The Refund
In the now-viral tweet, the doctor shared that they met with the Accountant General (ARD), who urged them to return the money, and subsequently headed to the state department to report the issue.
According to the X user, the Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA) took them to the bank to refund the money, which resulted in an interbank issue and involvement of the state accountant general.
However, the issue was resolved after weeks, while his friend is yet to receive his gratuity payment.

In 2024, a colleague of mine was mistakenly paid 99 million naira by the previous state government as salary arrears as seen in the screenshot, he reached out to me and I told him to return the money.
We met with the ARD president, and the president advised us to return the money, we then went to the state account department to report the issue.
The DFA took us to the bank, we tried sending the money back to the state government but the account limit won’t allow it, it became an interbank issue, we then had to involve the state accountant general who even invited us to his office.
The bank needed the Doctor’s authorisation for the money to be removed which he gave and it took weeks before the money was finally removed from that account.
I am hoping that a day will come when this current Edo state govt will give him his due recognition.
