“I thought I would lose my son while my husband buried his father” — Mother shares emotional story

A mother has recounted a harrowing near-tragedy in her home after her youngest son fell into a well, narrowly escaping death.
The incident, which occurred last year in March while her husband was away for his father’s burial, has sparked conversations about child safety and the dangers of unfinished construction projects.
Quick thinking saves child from drowning
The mother explained that prior warnings, including a dream her pastor had shared about a child falling into a well, had left her uneasy.
On the day of the incident, her second son ran inside in panic, reporting that his younger brother had gone missing while playing outside.
“Suddenly, my second son ran in and said he can’t find his younger brother. I jumped up and my mind went straight to the well. I got there and found my son at the bottom of the well filled with water to his neck. I called my two eldest sons to get me the ladder, and I held it for him to climb. That day, if I was going to die, I was ready to lay my life down for my boy.”
Unfinished wells highlight safety concerns
The well, one of two being dug at their home and church, remained incomplete, prompting experts to stress the dangers of unsecured construction sites.
Similar incidents have been reported in Nigeria, with authorities urging parents to supervise children and ensure safety measures around wells, pits, and construction areas to prevent preventable accidents.
The mother’s quick response and bravery have been widely shared online, with many praising her courage in a situation that could have ended tragically.
