“I sent her ₦20k monthly…only to find out she had been working for 3 months” – Lady cries out

A Nigerian lady has stirred reactions online after sharing how she felt betrayed by a close friend she had been financially supporting, only to later discover that the friend had secretly secured a job 3 months ago.

Helping a Friend in Need

The young woman, identified as Kenkenlewu, took to X (formerly Twitter) to recount how she stepped in to help when her friend lost her job, sending her a monthly allowance and offering additional support.

“A very close friend of mine lost her job, so I started sending her ₦20,000 monthly. I also shared data with her, I even added her to my Glo data plan and free call package. This went on for about six months. At the same time, I was actively looking out for job openings for her.”

Suspicious Behavior

She explained that she later began to notice changes in her friend’s WhatsApp status updates, as she frequently posted fine corporate photos.

According to her, whenever she teased her about it, the friend reportedly claimed she was only moving around submitting CVs.

“Then I started noticing something was off from her WhatsApp status. Unlike before, she began posting fine corporate pictures almost every day. I would comment and tease her about it, and she’d say she was just going around submitting her CVs.”

The Truth Comes Out

The truth allegedly came to light when the friend mistakenly posted a status update she forgot to hide, showing herself in an office with a caption celebrating her new job.

“One day, she probably forgot to hide me from viewing her status. She posted a picture from an office with the caption: ‘Best three months of my life. Best job ever.’”

When she confronted her, the friend later admitted she had been employed but claimed she wanted to be sure the job was stable before sharing the news.

“I calmly messaged her, ‘Babes, you have a job now?’ She didn’t reply until about four hours later. When she finally responded, she said yes, but that she was still trying to be sure the job was a good one.”

Moving On

Feeling hurt and used, the lady said she chose not to continue the conversation and decided to move on from the friendship.

“I felt played. I didn’t reply to her again, I just moved on.”

Her story has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many debating issues of honesty and gratitude in friendships.
