“I paid ₦3m for rent, months later my landlord returned only ₦500k, says…” — Port Harcourt lady cries out

A fresh housing dispute has sparked outrage in Port Harcourt after a tenant accused her landlord of offering what she described as an “insulting” compensation following a planned house renovation.

The woman shared her experience on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying she paid N3 million for a one-bedroom apartment less than a year ago.

She claimed the landlord now wants to renovate the estate and is offering her only N500,000 as compensation.

Tenant Cries Out Over N3m Rent

In her post, the tenant expressed shock and frustration over the development. She said the apartment is not even up to one year old.

“I paid 3 million naira for a one-bedroom apartment in Port Harcourt THREE MILLION and the house isn’t even up to one year old,” she wrote.

She questioned the logic behind the landlord’s offer. According to her, being offered N500,000 after paying N3 million makes no sense.

“How does that even make sense? How is that fair?” she asked.

The tenant described the situation as painful and insulting. She accused some landlords in the city of being wicked and insensitive to the financial struggles of residents.

“People are struggling to survive, to pay rent, to stay afloat, and you think 500k is compensation for 3 million? This is not just unfair it’s painful and insulting,” she added.
