“I paid your rent, sponsored your family” – Elderly man fumes as younger lover rejects marriage proposal

An elderly Nigerian man has gone viral after accusing a younger woman of rejecting his marriage proposal despite years of financial support, claiming she only remembered their age difference when it was time to settle down.

In a video making the rounds online, the visibly upset man alleged that he sponsored the woman’s lifestyle, business and family, only for her to become reluctant when he asked her to marry him.

Expressing his frustration, he said:

“You are collecting my money. I have been supporting your career. I have been paying your rent and giving you money for your business. I have been taking you to restaurants and clubs. I even gave you money to pay your parents’ house rent and supported your brothers and sisters.

“You never thought about my age gap then. Now that I want to settle down with you, you are shy to tell your parents because I am an older man.”

The man further accused the woman of enjoying the benefits of their relationship while refusing to commit because of what people might say about their age difference.

He insisted that the woman never raised concerns about their age gap throughout the relationship.

“When I took you shopping, to restaurants and clubs, why didn’t you talk about age gap? Now you are saying people will talk because you want to marry an older man,” he added.

The video has sparked mixed reactions online. While some criticised the woman, others argued that financial support should not guarantee marriage.

The incident has also reignited conversations about age-gap relationships, dating expectations and commitment.
