“I messed up. I allowed ego influence my decision” — Fido admits in public apology

Fast-rising Afrobeats singer Fido has publicly addressed recent controversies surrounding his conduct, admitting that fame, ego and inexperience influenced actions he now regrets.

The singer made the disclosure in a lengthy statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday.

Fido acknowledged that his rapid rise to stardom left him unprepared for the weight of public scrutiny and responsibility that came with his success, describing the period as one of personal confusion and poor judgement.

“I moved too fast without enough reflection”

In his statement, the artiste did not shy away from responsibility, openly admitting that he crossed certain lines.

There’s no easy way to write this, so I’ll just say it plainly. I messed up. I allowed ego, excitement and inexperience to influence some of my decisions. That’s not who I want to be, and it’s not who I’m becoming.”

He explained that while his career was accelerating publicly, his personal growth was still catching up behind the scenes.

Apology to fans and afrobeats community

Fido offered an unreserved apology to his fans and the wider Afrobeats community, particularly industry veterans and colleagues who may have felt disrespected.

To my fans who stood by me, defended me and prayed for me, I am sorry,” he wrote. To the legends and godfathers who paved the way, I apologise. Truly.”

Looking ahead with renewed focus

The singer said he deliberately chose reflection over pride, adding that the experience has reshaped his outlook.

It takes strength to admit you were wrong. I’m still learning, still evolving,” he noted, promising that his forthcoming music would reflect deeper maturity, gratitude and self-awareness.

He concluded by thanking those who held him accountable rather than abandoning him, describing the moment as a necessary step toward growth and renewal.
