“I made my first million” — Man shares how risky move paid off

A Nigerian man has gone viral after claiming that a ₦270,000 NELFUND loan helped change the course of his life, enabling him to buy a new phone and begin a content creation journey that eventually earned him his first million.

Sharing his experience on social media, the man said he applied for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) earlier this year despite his parents having already paid his school fees. According to him, his decision was driven by the need to replace his faulty iPhone 7 as he prepared to graduate.

He explained that some of his friends criticised him for taking a loan, warning him against the decision.

Man explains how he spent the loan

Recounting the experience, the man said, “The money sha drop o, 270k in my ZENITH bank account.”

He added that he immediately bought an iPhone 11 and paid for three months of a premium social media subscription, believing it would help him stay consistent with content creation.

Later, he stated, “Months later, I made my first MILLION. Alhamdulilah sha. Take that risky bold step today.”

Story sparks mixed reactions online

The post has attracted widespread reactions, with many social media users congratulating him on what they described as a smart investment in himself.

Others, however, questioned whether a student loan should be used for purposes other than educational expenses, while some argued that his story highlights how access to technology can create new income opportunities. His account has continued to fuel conversations about NELFUND loans, entrepreneurship and responsible use of financial support.
