“I left my job because my wife made more money than me” — Man

A man has stirred conversation online after sharing how he once left his job as a primary school teacher to follow his wife to another state because she had a better-paying job.
The man said the decision changed the course of their lives and eventually led them to financial success and a stable family life abroad.
According to his account, he was earning about ₦60,000 as a primary school teacher when he decided to marry his wife. Shortly before their wedding, she secured a well-paid job in another state.
The development forced the couple to confront a difficult question about their future.
Choosing Marriage Over Tradition
He explained that they did not want a long-distance marriage, so one of them had to quit their job.
After discussing it together, he decided to resign from his teaching position and relocate with his wife to the state where she worked.
He admitted the choice was not easy because of cultural expectations that women should usually follow their husbands after marriage.
Despite the pressure, he said he chose to put their relationship first.
“It was not an easy decision because of the cultural belief that women should be the ones to follow their husbands. But I did not let culture or ego stop me. I followed her,” he said.
Life As a House Husband
After relocating, the man said he took on the role of managing the home while his wife focused on her job.
He described himself as a “house husband” during that period, handling chores such as cleaning the house, cooking meals, and maintaining the home.
According to him, his goal was to make sure his wife never felt overwhelmed by the stress of work.
His wife also entrusted him with her bank ATM card, allowing him to manage their finances even though she was the one earning the salary.
He said he handled their expenses and even gave his wife allowance for her personal needs from the same income.
Turning Point Through Opportunity
The man revealed that his wife never disrespected him or made him feel less of a man because he was not earning at the time.
Instead, she supported him and later used her connections to help him secure business opportunities.
One of the deals, he said, paid more than her monthly salary and became a turning point in his life.
From there, he eventually secured a job and began earning significantly, transforming their financial situation.
A Lesson Beyond Ego
Reflecting on the experience, the man said putting aside pride and cultural expectations played a major role in their success.
He explained that marriage should be about partnership rather than competition over who earns more.
“Whoever earns the most money does not matter. What matters is that money is being made,” he said.
Today, the couple live abroad with their three children, a life he believes became possible because he chose partnership over ego.
