“I just wanted to…” – Lady calls out abroad-based Nigerian men over bill-splitting habits
A Nigerian lady has left social media buzzing after sharing her frustration about how Nigerian men in the UK handle expenses during outings.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she highlighted that even minor bills, such as a £10 meal or a drink, often spark unnecessary drama because of the insistence on splitting everything.
She explained that her irritation comes from the lack of generosity she has observed, noting that sometimes it’s better to let small gestures slide instead of keeping score.
In her words, she said:
“I will never understand you Nigerian guys in this UK. You guys split every bill. Because tell me, why would I be out with you, and we’re eating something less than £10, or having a drink, and I offered to pay for both of us, maybe less than £15.
Then you want to send me £8. You are so much in a hurry to transfer £8 to me. Who does this kind of thing? Why do we have to come and emulate everything?”
According to her, life abroad doesn’t have to be so calculated, pointing out that small acts of giving goes a long way in relationships.
“I could buy a drink for you today. You could buy a drink for me tomorrow. This thing is not that deep as you guys are making it,” she added.
Her rant has resonated with mixed reactions online.
One user wrote, “You no spill bills keh. Even parents and children dey split bills.” Another added, “In the UK, spilling bills normal. It just nicer to let someone treat you.”
