“I honestly do not wish to marry a virgin” — Man recounts heartbreaking experience with a virgin

A Nigerian man has sparked intense debate online after sharing a painful relationship experience that shaped his views on marrying a virgin woman.
In a widely shared post, the man explained why virginity is no longer a deciding factor for him, insisting that character matters far more than sexual history.
Relationship That Started With Hope
According to the man, his second serious relationship was with a woman who described herself as a virgin.
They dated for six months, and he said everything felt stable and promising during that period. Trouble began shortly after they moved in together.
Within two months, the relationship started to fall apart under pressure and financial stress.
Illness, Sacrifice, and Rising Tension
The man revealed that his partner fell seriously ill while they were living together.
With no money on either side, he used all his savings meant for a major project to pay for her treatment.
“She got better,” he said, but added that he was left broke, stressed, and racing against time to meet deadlines.
Instead of understanding his situation, he claimed she accused him of neglecting her emotionally.
Alleged Betrayal and Public Humiliation
He alleged that for three days, she cooked only for herself and ate alone while he stayed hungry in the same house.
After he complained, she reportedly left the house one night and returned the next morning acting normal.
Trusting his instincts, he said he checked her phone and discovered she had gone to another man’s house and had sex.
The revelation, he said, nearly broke him, even though he still tried to forgive and fix the relationship. When he confronted her, he claimed the situation turned ugly.
He accused her of grabbing his shirt, screaming, and making it appear as though he was assaulting her, drawing a crowd.
Family Intervention and Final Separation
The man said she later called her mother, who phoned him and warned him to stay away from her daughter.
“That was the end,” he wrote, describing it as the final collapse of the relationship. About a year later, he claimed the woman and her mother returned, begging him to restart the relationship.
He said he refused, despite continued appeals. Till today, he said her mother still asks him, “My son, so you and my pikin no fit fix things?” whenever they meet. He added that he simply smiles and walks away.
A Message on Values and Marriage
Reflecting on the experience, the man stressed that virginity alone is not a measure of good character.
“If a virgin comes by, good,” he said, adding that character matters “a thousand times more.” He concluded by warning people who judge partners solely by sexual history.
“If your only filter is virginity, best of luck to you. I’m good.”
