“I feel perfectly safe in Nigeria” – Boris Johnson dismisses insecurity concerns

Former UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has dismissed negative reports about Nigeria’s insecurity, saying he feels “perfectly safe” during his visit to Imo State.
Johnson made the remark on Thursday while addressing participants at the Imo State Economic Summit 2025 held in Owerri.
According to him, he read several warnings about potential security threats before coming to Nigeria, but he chose to proceed with the trip.
“When I decided to come to Owerri, I read some things, and there were people saying, ‘There may be some security problems in Nigeria. Have you heard that?’ And I said, ‘Well, I am going to go anyway!’” he said.
He added that everyone at the summit felt safe, thanking Governor Hope Uzodimma for efforts to improve security in the state.
“Do you feel safe here today in this conference? Yes, we all feel safe. And I feel perfectly safe. Thank you, Governor, for what you are doing,” he added.
Johnson also praised the governor’s push for 24-hour electricity across Imo, calling it a key driver of economic transformation.
He noted that artificial intelligence (AI) will play a major role in the state’s development roadmap, stressing that AI remains “the future.”
Boris Johnson’s remarks come as global conversations about Nigeria’s security continue, with his statement offering a different perspective on the situation.
