“I don’t hide, I fight harder” — Victor Osimhen

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has spoken candidly about the pressure and decisive moments that defined his performance during Nigeria’s 4-1 extra-time victory over Gabon in the 2026 World Cup inter-confederation playoffs on November 13, 2025.

His brace in extra time, including a deflected equaliser turned winner, secured Nigeria’s spot in the next stage of the playoffs.

In a post-match interview, Osimhen addressed the scrutiny he faced, particularly after missing two late chances in regulation time.

I am a professional player. I have been in the game for a long time. I don’t hide, I fight harder. I told my teammates we’re not done yet. This is our moment,”

Osimhen said, underlining how pressure fuels his determination and his leadership on the pitch.

Osimhen’s performance drew wide praise from fans and analysts alike, with his extra-time goals effectively silencing critics and keeping Nigeria’s World Cup hopes alive.

The striker emphasised that personal and team expectations are channels for motivation rather than stress.

Every challenge on the field is an opportunity to improve and deliver. I use the expectations from my fans, teammates, and myself to stay focused,” he explained.

The Super Eagles are now set to face DR Congo on Sunday in the African playoff final, with the winner advancing to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the clash, confident that the team’s momentum and Osimhen’s scoring form will carry them through.
