“I don’t believe” – Rufai Oseni questions Tinubu’s security promise, laments poor military welfare

Arise TV presenter Rufai Oseni has voiced concerns over Nigeria’s security situation, casting doubt on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s assurance that the country will overcome its challenges.
Speaking during a recent discussion, Rufai questioned the current state of the nation’s security architecture, describing it as deeply troubled and in urgent need of attention.
“Tinubu said we’ll win. President Tinubu, yes, it’s good to give hope, but it is hard to say we will win. The ecosystem is in tatters,” he said.
He went further to compare Nigeria’s response to military emergencies with that of countries like the United States, highlighting the level of resources committed to rescuing personnel abroad.
Rufai recalled the case of a Nigerian military officer, late General Musa Uba, who was reportedly left without adequate rescue support, contrasting it with how foreign nations prioritise the safety of their soldiers.
“I feel like crying. General Uba was in the bush with low battery, calling for help, but he was never saved. The next thing we heard was that bandits got him and killed him. His wife even cried that we let him down,” he added.
He criticised what he described as misplaced priorities, arguing that while funds are spent on military equipment, the welfare and protection of soldiers on the ground are often neglected.
“They are busy buying big military platforms, but they are not thinking about the soldiers losing their lives every day. They are not showing that they care for them,” he concluded.
