A Nigerian woman has sparked intense reactions online after revealing the real reason she walked away from her marriage.
In a viral video shared on Instagram, she explained that she discovered a disturbing belief held in her ex-husband’s community, one that left her terrified for her life.
According to her, the tradition in the village states that any woman who cheats on her husband dies.
She said the moment she fully understood what the rule meant, she knew she could not continue in the marriage, no matter how much she tried to rationalise it.
In her words, she said:
“In their village, if a woman cheats, she dies. I was shocked. You people are looking for who to kill. If a woman cheats, she dies. God forbid.”
According to her, the idea that her life could be tied to such a belief was unacceptable. She added that the tradition felt less like culture and more like a threat hanging over her head.
