“I collected the girl’s number” – Lady recounts how she lost her man over a kind gesture during date

A Nigerian lady has left social media stunned after sharing how a joke during a date turned into the biggest heartbreak of her life.

In a now-viral video shared on TikTok, she revealed that she and her boyfriend were out together when he spotted a pretty girl and jokingly said, “Maryam, don’t you see this girl is fine?”

Trying to play along, she replied jokingly, “Should I collect her number for you?” To her shock, he said yes.

Thinking it was harmless banter and wanting to be the “cool girlfriend”, she walked up to the girl and said her brother liked her and wanted her number.

The girl initially refused, but she insisted, even telling her that if she doesn’t want to be her brother’s girlfriend, she can be her friend.

Eventually, the girl gave her the number. She handed it over to her boyfriend.

That was the beginning of the end.

Unknown to her, her boyfriend and the girl started dating secretly behind her back, all while he was still in a relationship with her.

Things later took a shocking turn when the man broke up with her, only for her to find out months later that he and the same girl are now set to get married.

To make matters worse, the woman revealed that the girl is already pregnant for him.

Her story quickly triggered intense reactions online. One user wrote, “This is not being a good girlfriend. This is self-sabotage.” Another said, “The audacity to marry her after all that is wild.”

Others blamed the man, insisting that a loyal partner would never take such a joke seriously.

Her story has now sparked fresh conversations about boundaries, self-respect, and knowing when a joke is no longer a joke.
