“I can’t cope again” — Kunle Afolayan laments spending ₦11m on diesel in one Month

Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has expressed frustration over the rising cost of diesel, saying it is becoming unsustainable for businesses.
In a video clip shared online, the filmmaker revealed that he spent ₦11 million on diesel within just 4–5 weeks to power operations at KAP Village, one of his enterprises.
According to Afolayan, the increasing price of diesel, now around ₦1,500 per litre in, has made it extremely difficult for him to manage operational costs.
“I have been sad because I can’t cope with ₦1,500 per litre for diesel. In one of the businesses that I run, KAP Village, I spent ₦11 million in just 4–5 weeks on diesel,” he said.
He explained that even though the facility has solar power installed, the cost of running operations remains very high, especially in Lagos, where businesses often rely on generators due to inconsistent electricity supply.
Afolayan also noted that the recent increase in diesel prices from about ₦1,000 to over ₦1,500 per litre has worsened the situation, particularly when fuel is bought on credit and paid back later.
Appealing for support, he called on financial institutions and government agencies to provide loans that would allow businesses like his to upgrade their solar systems and reduce dependence on diesel for power.
