“I am shaking as I record this —Mother calls out Nigeria schools

A mother has raised alarm over alleged abuse at a nursery school after claiming her three-year-old son was struck on the head by a teacher using a drumstick for failing to complete his classwork.
The incident, which she shared in a video online, has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about corporal punishment in early childhood education.
Mother recounts disturbing incident
In the emotional video, the woman said she noticed injuries on her toddler’s head after he returned from school, prompting her to question school authorities.
She expressed shock that a child so young could be subjected to physical punishment, especially with an object.
She said, “I am shaking as I record this right now. Look at my son’s head — he’s just three years old. A toddler that is supposed to be learning through play, but instead he was beaten with a drumstick on his head because he wasn’t doing his work.”
Calls for accountability after repeated incidents
The mother further revealed that this was not the first time her son had suffered physical harm in school, stating that she had previously withdrawn him from another institution after a similar experience.
Despite receiving apologies from the current school’s headmistress and the teacher involved, she insisted that apologies were not enough to address the trauma inflicted on her child.
She added, “His last school left bruises on his head and they apologised. I moved him thinking this school would be safer, yet here we are again. Parents need to stop settling and start demanding accountability.”
Incidents of alleged child abuse in schools have periodically sparked national conversations in Nigeria, with advocacy groups repeatedly calling for stricter enforcement of child protection policies in educational institutions.
